Vaughan initiated the banter by asking Jaffer about India’s recent ODI performance against Sri Lanka. Jaffer responded with a witty comeback, comparing India’s performance to England’s recent Ashes record, noting that India won as many games in the series as England has won Tests in Australia in the last 12 years.

The exchange highlighted the ongoing rivalry and camaraderie between former cricketers from different nations. Jaffer, while acknowledging that wins and losses are part of the game, expressed concern about India having only three more ODIs scheduled before the ICC Champions Trophy next year in Pakistan.
India’s loss to Sri Lanka, marked by struggles against spin bowling, came in their first ODI series since their World Cup final defeat to Australia in November 2023. Avishka Fernando’s 96-run innings and Dunith Wellalage’s five-wicket haul were key to Sri Lanka’s 110-run victory in the final match.
Looking ahead, India’s next ODI series will be against England in February 2025, following a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in September 2024. The limited ODI fixtures before the Champions Trophy have raised concerns about team preparation.
